Port Authority: Attorney tried to board plane at Newark airport with gun, hollow point bullets

A 63-year-old Lehigh Township man is charged with attempting to bring a loaded handgun on a plane Saturday morning at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, police said.

Maurice Harmon, who has addresses listed in Lehigh Township and New Hope, Bucks County, was charged Saturday with unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a high capacity magazine, according to Port Authority Police.

Police said Harmon was arrested at Terminal C about 9:30 a.m. after officers spotted a loaded 9 mm handgun in Harmon's carry-on bag as it passed through an X-ray machine. Police said it was loaded with hollow-point bullets. At the time Harmon was planning to fly to Havana, officials said.

From an office in the New Hope area, Harmon practices copyright law with Harmon and Seidman LLC, a firm based in Grand Junction, Colo. According to the law firm's website, Harmon is a former Colorado district attorney. For more than a decade, Harmon was a professional photographer who traveled all over the world for magazines and commercial photo assignments. In 2003 he began practicing law again.
