The Port Authority Police Department has come under attack from uninformed management at the Port Authority. Bureaucrats are undermining the reputation of the department— directing other law enforcement agencies to encroach on jurisdictions traditionally patrolled by the Port Authority Police, even though our security measures and training exceed that of the region’s other agencies.
This intentionally misleading campaign diverts attention from the massive management problems at the Port Authority. For example, the bureaucratic management led to over 100,000 hours of forced overtime in 2016 alone.
Although the Port Authority has retained top flight law enforcement management professionals from NYPD, NJSP, and MTA Police Department, bureaucratic management has prevented them from doing their job.
Civilian mismanagement has led to several costly federal consent decrees. For the last decade, the PBA has been warning policy makers and the agency about shortages in man power.
