Who We Are

The Port Authority Police is the primary law enforcement agency for all properties operated by the Port Authority. Our officers are tasked with protecting tunnels, bridges, ports, airports, trains, bus terminals and the World Trade Center.

  • The Port Authority Police is the largest transportation related police department in the nation. Our officers are uniquely empowered with full police authority in New York and New Jersey.

  • Outside of the US Military, we operate the world’s largest aircraft police crash fire rescue unit in the world.

  • Officers protect some of the world’s prime terrorist targets, which is why the Port Authority Police has some of the highest counter-terrorism training in the world.

  • On September 11, 2001, the Port Authority Police suffered the worst single day loss of life of any Police Department in
the history of the United States. On that day, 37 Port Authority police officers were killed in the line of duty at the World Trade Center and many members are still struggling with 9/11 related illnesses.
